Frequently asked questions
How can I tell if I need a new bed or mattress?
If you have had your bed for longer than 8-10 years it is time to start thinking about a new bed. Some things to think about when considering a new purchase are:
How long you have had your bed.
The average life span of a quality bed is eight to ten years. Mattresses older may not provide the level of comfort and support you need.
You wake up feeling more tired than when you went to sleep.
If you don’t wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, or if you feel any pain or discomfort, it is probably time to consider a new bed to ensure you get the quality of sleep you need.
The couch feels more comfortable than your bed.
How does you bed feel? Do you feel coils or bumps? Your body needs a smooth, comfortable sleep surface to get a restful night’s sleep. Your bed should allow you to sleep through the night, with minimal tossing and turning.
Your bed looks worn and uneven.
Inspect your bed regularly for sags and imprints. If your mattress appears uneven, worn or frayed, it may be time to look at a new bed? The upholstery layers in mattresses compress over time. For optimal performance, be sure to rotate your mattress to extend its durability and renew its comfort.
You’ve taken your mattress for granted.
Mattresses are the most used yet often most ignored piece of furniture in the house. Pay attention to your mattress. Do you hear creaks? Do you notice the surface sags or there are indents in certain areas and not in others? The condition of your mattress may come as a surprise, once you take a closer look?
How much should I spend on a new bed?
Prices range greatly – anywhere from around $999 to over $10,000 for a queen bed. A good night’s sleep is one of the best investments you can make, so consider your budget and buy the best you can afford.
Should I replace my foundation when purchasing a new mattress?
A good foundation is as important as a good mattress. It acts much like a large shock absorber, taking a lot of the nightly wear and tear. And it contributes to your overall comfort and support. A new mattress placed on a worn foundation will wear out faster. When you buy a new mattress, we recommend you purchase a companion foundation – the two are designed to work together.
Will my mattress feel like the one I chose in the store when it is delivered?
There may be a ‘settling’ period of four to eight weeks with your new mattress. Your new Sealy mattress will consist of brand new foams, silks, wools and cottons and these materials require time to conform to your body shape and weight.
Will my mattress get body impressions?
Body impressions are normal and generally indicate that the comfort layers are working with your body as they should. Body impressions may appear to be more pronounced with King or Super King mattresses. Try to use the entire surface of your mattress and rotate the mattress as recommended in your Sealy Warranty.
What if my mattress has an odour when it is delivered?
Any odour you detect with your mattress is generally a short term issue and should not last any longer than one or two weeks. If you continue to have concerns regarding the odour, we recommend you sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on the mattress, leave for as long as possible, then vacuum off. Alternatively place the bicarbonate of soda in a bowl in the bedroom, or spray on the mattress – a fabric deodoriser may also assist.
What if there is a noise with my mattress?
Noise may come from the mattress or the base. The best way to determine the source of the noise is to isolate the mattress from the base onto the floor and then attempt to replicate the noise.
BASE ISSUE
There are several possible causes of noise with bases, including castors/glides not being fitted correctly, headboard fittings, or the base rubbing against a nearby power-point.
MATTRESS ISSUE
Misuse of the mattress (such as jumping) can generate noise. If the noise occurs whilst sleeping, we would suggest contacting our Customer Care Department to discuss the issue further.
What happens if I experience a heat issue with my mattress?
If you are sleeping on a pillow top mattress, the comfort levels in the top of the mattress will conform to the shape of your body. The softer the comfort layers, the deeper you will sink into your mattress. Should you experience a heat issue with your mattress, Sealy suggests a number of options, including using cotton bed linen and woollen underlays in conjunction with temperature reduction options in your home, such as fans and/or air-conditioning.
How long is the warranty on Sealy beds?
